So it seems like the latest release of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus doesn’t seem to be garnering much attention or hype around the world. Which makes us wonder, which phone is actually better? The latest iPhone 8 or Google Pixel 2?

We’ve compiled a comparison list to help you decide.

Size & Screen Comparison

They’re both pretty much the same size, with Pixel 2 just slightly bigger than the iPhone 8:

  • iPhone 8: 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm
  • Pixel 2: 145.7 x 69.7 x 7.8mm

Their screens are quite different though:

  • iPhone 8: 4.7-inch, 1334 x 750 LCD, 326 ppi
  • Pixel 2: 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 AMOLED, 441ppi

Pixel 2’s display is slightly bigger than the iPhone 8’s. Pixel 2 also has a higher pixel density as it uses AMOLED screen technology to bring vivid colours and deep blacks. However, the iPhone 8 is not far behind with their Apple’s True Tone technology that adjusts the colour and brightness to match the lighting around you.

Performance Comparison

Both phones have amazing processors with the Snapdragon 835 in Pixel 2 and A11 Bionic chip in iPhone 8. Both phones offer incredibly fast performance and power efficiency. Most users might favour iPhone 8, but make no mistake, as Pixel 2 is a still a worthy competitor and is not far behind in the competition.

Battery Life Comparison

At least on papers, the battery capacity for both the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 are:

  • iPhone 8: 1,821mAh
  • Pixel 2: 2,700mh

However, iPhone 8 is said to have battery life for 14 hours of talk time and 12 hours of Internet use. Meanwhile, Pixel 2 is said to offer impressive all-day coverage.

Both phones generally charge pretty fast. Google says 15 minutes of charging is sufficient for 7 hours of usage. While, the iPhone 8 needs a half-hour of charging to fill half its battery.

Storage Comparison

Both the iPhone 8 and Pixel 2 have a base model of 64GB, as they both eliminated the 32GB option this year.

  • iPhone 8: 64GB, 256GB
  • Pixel 2: 64GB, 128GB

If you need more storage space for your music or photos, perhaps you should get the iPhone 8 instead as they offer the 256GB option too.

Camera Comparison

Both cameras have similar specs.

  • iPhone 8: 12MP, f/1.8, autofocus with focus Pixels, optical image stabilisation
  • Pixel 2: 12MP, f/1.8, laser autofocus, dual pixel phase detection, optical image stabilisation

Google is likely to develop a camera lens that will perform impressively even in low light conditions. There is not much increase in terms of megapixels but Google will compensate this with extra camera features.

As for videos, iPhone 8 films 4k in 60fps while the Pixel 2 films at 30fps instead. Both phones have slow motion video support for 1080p at 240fps.

Perhaps the perks for Pixel owners would be that Google offers unlimited cloud photo storage for FREE with Pixel, which will ultimately cost you lesser than through iCloud.

Price Comparison

Of course you can expect both phones to be pricey as they’re equally ‘high-end smartphones’. However, Pixel 2 may be A LITTLE cheaper as compared to the iPhone 8.

  • iPhone 8: $699 (64GB), $849 (256GB)
  • Pixel 2: $649 (64GB), $749 (128GB)

Google Pixel 2 is expected to be released on the 4th of October, while iPhone 8 was released just recently on the 22nd of September.
