How To Save Money With Google Flights This Holiday Season?

google-flights

Hey, are you familiar with Google Flights?

No? Well, you are missing something great. But if you are familiar with Google Flights, then you are no stranger to what this amazing service actually offers.

Here is the good news, you can still try it out; you might have used it without even noticing. In fact, you can go ahead and try it out now.

The team at Google Flights noticed patterns in how people buy tickets during holiday seasons like Thanksgiving and Christmas. They noticed that there are more flights booked during these times than any other time during the year – this is very understandable and nothing really new.

But, the guys at Google have some advice for users when using Google Flights to save a little more cash when booking or preparing to fly during these days.

1. Try Hard To Avoid Travelling During Peak Days

“Hey, how the heck am I supposed to avoid busy travel days if I gotta work till Friday night?”

That’s right.

It is frustrating to actually have to wait and travel during peak days. Not everyone can actually get the day off or have some other alternative to work on the road.

BUT IF YOU CAN; just if you can, try to arrange for a flight-out a day or two earlier. Why? There might be cheaper flights available during non-peak travel days.

Of course, you will face the same issue when you plan to go back. So, plan ahead.

Some people would say, “Hey, avoid travelling during the holiday season all together.” But, how many of us can do that?

The point here is booking for a flight at an earlier date will improve your chances in getting a cheaper flight – you can save some money.

2. You Might Get Special Offers At Big Airports

Most airports will be Busy – Especially Big Ones

This is expected because more people are traveling and heading to different destinations. The guys at Google found that sometimes, big busy airports with many operating airlines may have cheaper flights.

Is this true? Well, this can happen momentarily and the offer might not last for a long time. So, keep your eyes open on these special offers.

3. Fly In The Opposite Direction – Vacation Abroad

Ok. So this is a crazy idea and it is easier said than done. But, just hold on a second.

If you are single, or if you have a partner, or if you have a small family, or if you aren’t big on the idea of big family gatherings, you have many options such as stay where you are, or get out of town. Sometimes, a trip in the opposite direction saves you a significant amount of money. In fact, in some cases, an entire trip away from the holiday centers may cost you as much as a single flight to a holiday destination. And hey, how about trying out a tropical Christmas?

Google’s top destinations during the holidays include, as of 2016:

  • Rome, Italy
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Sao Paulo, Brazil
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • Bogota, Colombia
  • Bangkok, Thailand
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Brussels, Belgium
  • Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

4. Travel Off Season

If your idea of holidays is to spend time with family, why not spend time with them off season? It is understandable that the season has its own spirit and feelings. But it is economically unfriendly and will make you stressed and cost you lots of money.

Travelling off season offers cheaper flights, convenient travel, less busy airports and of course time at home.

5. Get Your Alerts On

This is important.

If you have a certain budget you need to follow, ensure that you subscribe to Google Flight alert and get price notifications on your phone.

Google Flight has a cool feature where it shows the user how much the price has increased over a certain period of time.

One set-back, however, this feature doesn’t cover all flight routes. But they do serve the purpose especially when you choose to track a particular flight price and route.
