Thanksgiving is just a few days away, which means the holiday season is coming right up. How much do you actually know about Thanksgiving? Here are a few things you may not know about Thanksgiving.

1. Jingle Bells was originally a Thanksgiving Song

Jingle Bells is a classic Christmas song. But did you know that it was originally written to be sung on Thanksgiving Day?

The song composed by James Pierpont gained so much popularity that it was repeated again during Christmas, and again and again……until it eventually became the Christmas song we all know today.

2. The Average Thanksgiving Calories Consumption per Capita is 6000

We all know Thanksgiving Day is a major holiday celebration for Americans. But did you know that the average American consumes about 4000 to 6000 calories on this Thanksgiving day itself? That is almost an equivalent of 8 hours of exercise to burn those calories off!

3. Americans eat a lot of turkey during Thanksgiving.

Did you know that about 46 MILLION turkeys are eaten during Thanksgiving?!

That is approximately twice as much turkey that is being eaten during Christmas! In fact, more than 730 million pounds of turkey are being consumed annually and about 250 million turkeys are raised in America in any given year.

4. Originally a FAST, Not a Feast

What is now known as the largest feast of the year, was actually meant to be the largest FAST of the year. Initially, devout Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock would give thanks by praying and abstaining from food. It was the Wampanoag Indians who introduced the feasting and games when they joined them for the 3-day celebration.

5. Many Nations Celebrate Thanksgiving
